Reacting strongly to the disturbances along National Highway 2 (NH-2) and the burning of a truck, the Senapati District Students Association (SDSA) has issued a stern directive against the Kuki-Zo community.
In a press statement dated June 3, 2024, ref.no. SDSA/64/22-24, the SDSA urged all parties to refrain from hampering vehicular movements along NH-2 and to maintain the highway as a safe zone. The Committee on Tribal Unity (CoTU), however, ignored this appeal, according to the Information & Publicity Wing of the SDSA.
The SDSA condemned the arson of a truck on June 6, 2024, near Tumuyon Khullen, describing it as a “direct challenge to our authority and a grave threat to community safety.” They demanded swift legal action against the perpetrators.
The SDSA emphasized the need for immediate measures to prevent further escalation and protect all communities. Following a resolution at their 2nd Federal Assembly on June 1, 2024, the SDSA declared it would not be responsible for any negative outcomes affecting the Kuki-Zo community within Senapati. Responsibility for any adverse events lies with CoTU and their affiliates, the statement said.
The SDSA announced an embargo on supplying goods to Kuki-Zo areas from Senapati, calling it a necessary response to aggression. All commercial transactions with the Kuki-Zo community are prohibited.
The SDSA warned that anyone violating this order would face full consequences, and they would not be held accountable for any resulting harm or loss. The responsibility for safety and repercussions will rest entirely on those who disregard the directive, the SDSA stated.
