In a pivotal address at the 56th session of the UN Human Rights Council, Kshitij Tyagi, First Secretary of India’s Permanent Mission in Geneva, articulated India’s stance on the pressing issues emanating from Myanmar. Tyagi highlighted India’s deep concern over the escalating influx of Myanmar nationals into India’s Northeastern states and the burgeoning challenges posed by transnational crimes such as drug and human trafficking.

Emphasizing India’s role as a close neighbor and advocate for peace, Tyagi called for an immediate cessation of violence from all parties in Myanmar, alongside the release of political detainees and increased humanitarian assistance. He stressed the imperative of resolving the crisis through constructive dialogue led by Myanmar itself, affirming India’s unwavering commitment to peace, stability, and development in the region.

Furthermore, Tyagi underscored India’s proactive efforts in Myanmar, including ongoing humanitarian aid, community-centric projects, and capacity-building initiatives. These efforts are aimed at fostering sustainable peace and addressing the underlying causes of instability, reflecting India’s robust engagement and support for Myanmar’s journey towards peace and prosperity.
