In a disturbing turn of events on Tuesday evening, a bus transporting CRPF personnel was intercepted and set ablaze by an angry mob at Kangpokpi bazar in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district.
The bus, bearing registration No. MN 06 B 0463, was on its route from DC Kangpokpi to Kangpokpi Police Station when it came to a halt at Kangpokpi bazar. Allegations surfaced among the crowd suggesting ownership by the Meitei community, according to sources.
Efforts by police to reach the scene were thwarted by an estimated 2,000 protesters who barricaded the road, rendering rescue attempts futile.
Law enforcement eventually managed to disperse the agitated mob and safely relocate the bus.
Against the backdrop of heightened tension in Manipur, significant reinforcements comprising CRPF, BSF, ITBP, and RAF have been deployed following recent election duties across the country.
These newly stationed paramilitary forces have begun taking up positions in various schools and colleges across the valley and its outskirts.
The incident occurred a day after Union Home Minister Amit Shah chaired a crucial meeting in New Delhi, focusing on Manipur’s security situation.
Following the meeting, Amit Shah directed authorities to take proactive measures to prevent further violence in Manipur, vowing additional deployments and strict legal action against perpetrators.
