With floodwaters still inundating Manipur’s valley districts, submerging homes, shops, and vehicles, key figures have expressed their concerns. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi have all addressed the ongoing crisis.

On X, formerly known as Twitter, Prime Minister Modi stated, “Unfortunately, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura, and West Bengal have experienced natural disasters following Cyclone Remal. My thoughts and prayers are with all those affected. I have reviewed the situation.” He continued, “The Central Government pledges full support to the states and is actively monitoring the situation. Officials on the ground are assisting those impacted.”

Home Minister Amit Shah also took to X, saying, “Deeply troubled by the natural disasters caused by Cyclone Remal in Assam, Tripura, Manipur, Meghalaya, and Mizoram. I briefed PM Modi, who stands in solidarity with those affected. I’ve spoken with the respective state Chief Ministers, assessed the situation, and promised all possible aid.” Shah added, “Our hearts go out to those who have lost loved ones, and we pray for the speedy recovery of the injured. Authorities are providing every possible assistance.”

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi shared his concerns on X, stating, “The severe flash floods in Manipur due to relentless rainfall have affected thousands, leaving many stranded or displaced. My deepest condolences to those who have lost loved ones. I urge Congress leaders and workers to offer all possible support and aid in rescue and rehabilitation efforts.”

The heavy rainfall in catchment areas and other valley districts has caused major rivers in the Imphal valley to breach their banks, resulting in widespread flooding. Homes, shops, vehicles, and properties across various parts of the state remain submerged as rescue operations continue.

Cyclone Remal has unleashed torrential rains, severe waterlogging, landslides, and river overflows in several locations. The Indian Army, Assam Rifles, NDRF, and local authorities are conducting rescue operations, while CM Biren has also surveyed the situation.
