Truecaller, a prominent caller identification service in India, is poised to unveil an innovative AI-powered feature. This new functionality aims to replicate users’ voices to handle calls autonomously.
Powered by Microsoft’s ‘Personal Voice’ technology, the upcoming AI Assistant is a groundbreaking addition to Truecaller’s suite of services. It was introduced by the tech giant last November as part of its Azure AI speech platform.
This cutting-edge feature will be accessible to Truecaller Premium subscribers. Users will be required to record short voice samples to enable the AI to mimic their voices accurately when answering calls. Additionally, the AI Assistant allows users to screen incoming calls and provide information on the purpose of each call.
While Truecaller already offers various voice options for call answering, this marks the first time the company is introducing an AI-powered voice cloning feature. However, activating the ‘Personal Voice’ feature will replace the existing Truecaller Assistant, allowing users to customize the greeting message template to inform callers about the use of a digital voice replica. Users will also have the option to personalize subsequent responses.
According to Microsoft, Azure AI Speech, currently available to a select group of users, automatically embeds a watermark into the digital voice to aid in the identification of synthetic audio by detection tools. Truecaller has announced that the ‘Personal Voice’ feature will be gradually rolled out to public beta users residing in India, the US, Canada, Australia, Sweden, Chile, and South Africa in the coming weeks.
In recent months, Truecaller has introduced several new AI-powered features aimed at combating spam calls, generating transcriptions and summaries for recordings, and launching a web version of the app tailored for Android users.
