Manipur High Court Orders Payment of Dues to Former MHRC Chair
In a recent development, the Manipur High Court directed the primary accountant general of Manipur to settle outstanding payments owed to a former acting chairperson who served in the Manipur Human Rights Commission (MHRC).
According to the court’s ruling, Khaidem Mani, the former chairperson of MHRC, is entitled to receive the salary owed to the chairperson during the period he fulfilled the duties of the position, as outlined in a directive issued by the Governor on August 28, 2018.
Furthermore, the state respondents have been instructed to bridge the gap in remuneration between the chairperson and other members and to submit necessary paperwork to the office of the principal accountant general, Manipur, within a two-month timeframe from the date of receiving the court’s order.
Additionally, the principal accountant general is required to issue a revised salary statement for Khaidem Mani within one month of receiving the required documentation from the state respondents. The process of settling outstanding payments and allowances is expected to be completed within six months from the date of the court’s ruling.
The former acting chairperson approached the High Court seeking the issuance of a writ to compel the respondents to pay the outstanding salaries and allowances owed to him for his service as the chairperson of the MHRC throughout his entire tenure as a member.
Khaidem Mani served as the chairperson of the MHRC continuously for a period of four years, from August 30, 2018, until August 31, 2022.
