Manipur Security Advisor Kuldiep Singh briefed Governor Anusuiya Uikey at Raj Bhavan on Thursday regarding the current security situation in the state.
Singh informed the Governor about the deployment of central forces in border areas to prevent untoward incidents, according to a release from the Governor’s Secretariat.
He also stated that some forces would be temporarily withdrawn for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections but are expected to return afterward.
Central forces are currently engaged in guarding state armories and escorting vehicles along NH-2 (Imphal-Dimapur road) and NH-37 (Imphal-Jiribam road), the release added.
The Governor requested the Security Advisor to take all possible measures to ensure public safety and security.
Meanwhile, a joint team of Thoubal Police and 33 Assam Rifles apprehended four KCP(PWG) cadres at Yairipok Bazaar, along with arms and ammunition, during an extortion attempt.
The team, led by OC/CDO Thoubal unit, identified the arrested individuals as Sinam Bijen alias Mangang Meetei, 38, of Thoubal; Angom Ingo alias Apa Singh, 53, of Thoubal; Warepam Jayenta Singh, 36, of Imphal West; and Oinam Naocha alias Max Singh, 24, of Imphal West.
During interrogation, the suspects confessed to being active members of KCP(PWG).
Confiscated items included five mobile handsets, two 9mm pistols with 15 live rounds, five demand letters, two 5.56 mm rounds, four 7.62 mm rounds, and a white A-Star car.
A case has been registered at the concerned police station for further action.
Additionally, police arrested Laishram Ronen Singh, 48, alleged member of the KCP Taibanganba faction, with a .32 pistol, two magazines, four live rounds, and two mobile phones from Imphal West district.
He is reportedly involved in extorting money from Thangal Bazar and Paona Bazar, according to the police release.
