Demanding Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh to promptly send the two essential reports for Meetei’s inclusion in the ST list to the Centre, the World Meetei Council (WMC), Assam Unit, plans a protest in Guwahati on May 19.

The protest will unfold at Manipur Basti Rajbari, according to a statement from WMC Assam Unit’s general secretary, L Pankaj Singh, issued on Thursday. The decision was taken during a meeting of WMC Assam State Unit Executive Committee held on Wednesday, as per the release.

It stressed that repeated requests have been made to the chief minister for forwarding the two reports, namely Ethnography and the latest Socio-Economic reports, to the Centre for Meetei’s inclusion in India’s ST List. However, they remain pending to date.

Expressing grave concern over the situation of the Meetei diaspora in Assam and their continued existence, the statement urged the CM to hasten the submission of the necessary reports for Meetei community’s ST list inclusion to prevent their potential extinction. It further called upon all Meeteis in Assam to join the protest.
