State Government Implements Measures to Control Roofing Material Prices in Wake of Hailstorm Damage
In the aftermath of a devastating hailstorm wreaking havoc across Manipur last Sunday, the state government has taken decisive action to stabilize the prices of essential roofing materials. Reports indicate widespread damage to properties, prompting urgent intervention.
Directed by the state authorities, Deputy Commissioners have been tasked with overseeing the pricing of roofing materials, particularly CGI sheets, to ensure fair accessibility for affected households. This initiative comes as a response to the pressing need for relief and recovery efforts in the region.
Imphal West Deputy Commissioner wasted no time in issuing stringent regulations on Monday, aimed at effectively managing the distribution of roofing materials. These regulations seek to address the rising demand and ensure equitable access for all impacted families.
In a formal statement, Imphal West DC, Th Kirankumar, underscored the importance of transparency in pricing, mandating all vendors to operate daily and prominently display their stock details along with prices. Furthermore, vendors are required to furnish this information to the authorities for monitoring purposes.
The regulations further prohibit bulk purchasing, reserving sales exclusively for households affected by the hailstorm. Stringent record-keeping protocols have been put in place, with district officials and law enforcement tasked with monitoring compliance.
These measures, effective immediately and slated to remain in force until May 13, 2024, aim to alleviate the burden on affected communities during this challenging time. Citizens are encouraged to report any grievances or concerns via SMS to a designated mobile number.
The directives, issued under Secretariat: CAF & PD Order No EC-103/1/2021-CAFANDPD-CAFANDPD dated May 6, 2024, reflect the government’s commitment to swift and decisive action in the face of adversity.
Meanwhile, in Bishnupur district, Deputy Commissioner Lourembam Bikram has issued strict instructions to CGI sheet vendors, prohibiting any unjustified price hikes. Violators will face legal repercussions, as the authorities remain vigilant in safeguarding the interests of the populace.
These proactive measures underscore the government’s unwavering resolve to mitigate the impact of natural disasters and ensure the well-being of its citizens.
