The stage is all set for the second phase of the Lok Sabha Election 2024 in the Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency, slated for Friday. All arrangements are in place, with polling officers and robust security measures ensuring a seamless electoral process.
Across the constituency, a total of 848 polling stations stand ready, backed by 87 companies of paramilitary forces and over 4,000 state police personnel, tasked with maintaining law and order.
As we head into this crucial second phase, four candidates are vying for the Outer Manipur seat – Alfred Kanngam S Arthur from the Congress party, Kachui Timothy Zimik representing the Naga People’s Front (NPF), along with two independent candidates, Alyson Abonmei and S Kho John.
The polling activity is set to span 13 Assembly Constituencies, covering eight distinct hill districts of Manipur.
These include Jiribam, Tamenglong, Tengnoupal, Ukhrul, Pherzawl, Senapati, Noney, and Kamjong.
A notable total of 4,84,949 electors are eligible to cast their votes in this phase. Among them, 2,39,140 are male electors, 2,45,807 are female electors, with the remaining being third-gender electors.
Assuring the public, Joint CEO N Ramananda confirmed the conduct of comprehensive training sessions for micro observers, polling officers, and other officials, aimed at ensuring a seamless electoral process.
“The CEO’s office expresses confidence in the peaceful conduct of the second phase of the election, upholding the sanctity of a free and fair electoral process,” he affirmed.
The election commission has issued a fervent call to voters to exercise their democratic right in large numbers and actively participate in the electoral process. Security measures have been stepped up to guarantee the safety of voters and polling personnel during both the voting process and subsequent vote counting.
