In the midst of heightened electoral tensions in Manipur, Kuki insurgents launched an assault on Koutruk village located under the jurisdiction of Lamshang Police Station, Imphal West. The attack, carried out through the discharge of firearms, occurred on Friday at approximately 9:20 pm.
Responding to the aggression, members of the 3rd IRB and 7th MR swiftly retaliated against the militants.
According to credible sources, the Kuki insurgents orchestrated their offensive from the vicinity of Haraothel and Bethel areas situated in Kangpokpi district.
Up to the time of this report, no fatalities or injuries have been documented.
Additionally, unidentified armed individuals discharged multiple rounds of ammunition into the atmosphere at 9 am on Friday within the vicinity of Thamnapokpi Bazar along Tiddim Road NH-2 in Bishnupur district.
The occurrence of this alarming incident prompted an immediate and coordinated response from law enforcement units, including those from Bishnupur District, Moirang, and the CDO teams, who swiftly mobilized to investigate the situation. Fortunately, no casualties or property damage were incurred as a consequence of the gunfire.
Before the authorities could arrive at the scene, the perpetrators managed to abscond. Subsequently, in the aftermath of the incident, legal proceedings have been initiated under the Arms Act to facilitate further inquiry.
