Amidst a significant upheaval, the Manipur Police apprehended three individuals in connection with a gunfire incident near a polling station in the East Imphal district on April 19.
During the inaugural phase of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, an unprecedented episode unfolded at Moirangkampu primary school, resulting in one individual sustaining injury.
According to reports, the three accused, Leichombam Jemson Singh (34 years old), Nongthombam Ratan (47 years old), and Khumukcham Angamba (32 years old), were found in possession of 32 pistols accompanied by eight live ammunitions, three cellular devices, one automobile, and a sum of Rs 1.5 lakhs in cash.
The electoral proceedings in the strife-torn state were inundated with reports of gunfire, intimidation, booth usurpation, and the vandalization of EVMs at various polling booths. Manipur registered a voter turnout exceeding 68 percent.
The expeditious intervention by the State Police in this instance underscores their steadfast dedication to upholding peace and security during electoral undertakings, which bear considerable significance nationally.
