In the polling areas of Imphal West, Manipur, a strict prohibition on the sale of alcoholic beverages and other substances will be enforced from 4 pm on April 17 until the conclusion of the Lok Sabha election to ensure fair and impartial voting.

This ban on the sale of alcoholic beverages and other substances will also be in effect on the day of counting, June 4, as per an order issued by district electoral officer Imphal West Th Kirankumar on Sunday.

The imposition of this restriction is justified by the statutory provision outlined in Section 135C of the Representation of Peoples Act 1951 and the polling hour schedule established by the Election Commission of India.

As per Section 135C of the Representation of Peoples Act 1951, the sale, distribution, or provision of alcoholic beverages or other intoxicating substances within a polling area is strictly prohibited during the final 48 hours leading up to the conclusion of any election in that area.

The Election Commission of India has designated the polling hours for the No. 1-Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency on April 19, 2024, from 7 am to 4 pm for the upcoming 18th General Election to Lok Sabha, 2024.
