The ceremony for raising the flag in honor of the BJP’s candidate for the Inner Manipur Parliamentary Constituency, Th Basanta Kumar, transpired at his Utlou abode in the Bishnupur district on Wednesday.
This occasion, traditionally regarded as one of the most magnificent election rallies in Manipur, witnessed the noticeable absence of Chief Minister N Biren Singh, sparking conjecture and uncertainty among the populace.
Although notable figures of the BJP in Manipur, such as BJP Manipur president A Sharda and minister Govindas Konthoujam, graced the event, CM Biren’s absence did not escape observation.
A representative for the BJP Manipur attempted to allay the growing speculations, suggesting that the CM’s nonappearance could be attributed to his demanding timetable.
“Both CM Biren and Basanta Kumar are perceived as a cohesive entity. There is no underlying negativity or conflict between them,” the spokesperson elucidated.
Notably, when Basanta Kumar submitted his nomination papers for the elections at the DC office of Imphal West, he was accompanied by CM Biren, his cabinet members, and senior office bearers of the BJP Manipur.
This contrasting scenario further contributed to the intrigue surrounding the CM’s absence from the flag-raising event.
In a new development, a civil body has decreed a prohibition on election campaigns and flag-raising ceremonies. This decree is anticipated to affect the campaign tactics of all political factions in the area as the election date approaches.
Despite his duties as a minister, Th Basanta Kumar Singh, the current minister of Education and Law, reiterated his dedication to serving the state, country, and its citizens, emphasizing his resolve to contest the MP election. “The position holds little importance for me; what matters is serving the state, the country, and my people,” he expressed.
Addressing inquiries from the media regarding his candidacy while holding a cabinet position, he referenced the prevailing circumstances in Manipur and his desire to contribute to the state’s progress as motivating factors for his decision.
Basantakumar commended the Central leaders for their selection and vowed to support Prime Minister Modi’s third term with unwavering dedication.
Looking forward, he voiced confidence in the BJP government’s prospects at the Centre and encouraged voters in inner Manipur to back candidates capable of producing results and effectively advocating for the region’s interests. Remarkably, the flag-raising ceremony also witnessed the presence of NPP’s MLA Th Shanti.
