CLP leader Okram Ibobi has criticized the BJP government under the leadership of chief minister N Biren for its consistent tendency to attribute blame to the previous administration for all issues, describing it as a desperate and disgraceful effort to conceal their failure and mismanagement.
He made these remarks during the commendation event for former RPI-A candidate, advocate Laitonjam Brojen, who recently joined the Indian National Congress (INC), at Congress Bhawan, here, on Thursday.
Former deputy chief minister Gaikhangam, MPCC president MLA K Meghachandra, and representatives of various political factions in the INDIA bloc were present at the commendation event.
In his address to the audience, Ibobi emphasized that the upcoming Lok Sabha election presents a unique opportunity for the people of the state to spearhead a positive transformation towards a new and improved Manipur.
He stressed that it is an opportune moment for the citizens to oppose the approach of the BJP government towards the northeast, particularly Manipur.
Asserting the need to impart a lesson, Ibobi urged individuals not to squander this chance.
The former chief minister underscored the evident failure of the BJP government in safeguarding the lives and properties of the populace.
Expressing regret, he criticized the government for persistently shifting blame onto its predecessor to obscure its own deficiencies, labeling such actions as shameful and absurd.
According to Ibobi, during its seven-year tenure in the state, the BJP government failed to launch any significant new initiatives, let alone complete projects initiated by the Congress party.
He called upon the people of Manipur to demonstrate that their integrity cannot be swayed by monetary inducements and that they refuse to rely on external support.
Furthermore, he urged the populace to expose the incompetence of the BJP government.
INC candidate for Inner Manipur Parliamentary constituency, Professor Angomcha Bimol Akoijam, urged the public to approach the election with seriousness.
Reflecting on the events of the June 18 uprising, he highlighted the existing fractures within the state.
He metaphorically likened the state’s condition during that time to sinking in quicksand up to the neck, signifying the severity of the situation.
Despite advocacy for unity and integrity, the concept of Manipur has already suffered fractures, as certain groups are now unable to traverse specific geographical areas.
Acknowledging the sentiments of the people, he emphasized the importance of translating emotions into action.
He reiterated that the crisis persists and cannot be considered resolved until displaced individuals return to their homes safely.
He criticized the government for misleading the public by falsely claiming that peace and normalcy have been restored in the state.
The candidate implored the populace to unite in efforts to safeguard the state, emphasizing that patriotism extends beyond taking up arms.
He emphasized that government incompetence is driving youth towards armed resistance.
He cautioned against the potential for the government to turn against the very youth who took up arms to defend the state in the absence of adequate government intervention.
MPCC also unveiled its Ghar Ghar Guarantee campaign, aimed at providing assurances to youth, farmers, and women across the country, as outlined in the party’s election manifesto.
