Currently, a search and rescue operation is in progress for a nine-year-old boy who accidentally fell into the Thoubal River on Sunday. The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team and local residents are actively involved in this mission.
The young victim has been identified as Laishram Wangthoi, the son of Kington from Thoubal Kiyam Siphai Heibong Leikai. He slipped into the river around 3 pm.
According to reports, Wangthoi was with three of his friends at the river to wash their feet when he accidentally fell while reaching for his slipper, which had fallen into the water during the foot-washing.
In a desperate attempt to signal for help, Wangthoi raised his hand, but unfortunately, his friends misunderstood the situation. Despite his distress, they panicked and hurried back home without informing any adults, as recounted by sources.
It was only later, as darkness began to set in, that they disclosed Wangthoi’s drowning incident to the elders after being questioned about their absent friend.
As of the time of this report, the search efforts are ongoing.
