The Minister of Consumer Affairs, Food, and Public Distribution, L. Susindro, strongly denounced the bomb threat against the staff, drivers, and laborers working at FCI warehouses. He urged everyone not to disrupt the distribution of ration to beneficiaries under the National Food Security Act.

Due to the ongoing threat, the FCI warehouse in Sangaiprou, Imphal West, has been temporarily closed for several months.

During a press briefing at the FCI warehouse in Sangaiprou, Susindro addressed concerns about a viral video on social media claiming that ration distribution had commenced in Saikul and Noney districts. He clarified that the video’s circulation was due to a misunderstanding.

Although permission has been granted to distribute rations from the warehouse to valley districts, including Imphal East, Imphal West, Bishnupur, Thoubal, and Kakching, drivers and laborers have been reluctant to collect ration due to fear of unknown individuals.

Susindro urged the respective MLAs of different Assembly constituencies to arrange for their drivers and laborers to collect the allocated ration from the warehouse.

He emphasized that these steps were taken after careful consideration of the difficulties faced by the public in accessing ration. Despite the government’s implementation of various security measures at different FCI warehouses, ensuring adequate security for every driver and laborer remains a challenge.

In case of necessity, the government will establish open stalls at warehouses to address the needs of the people, he added.
