After discussing and talking a lot for three days, the Naga People’s Front (NPF) has picked Kachui Timothy Zimik as its choice for the 18th Lok Sabha elections in Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency.
Others who wanted to be NPF’s candidate were former UNC president Kho John, current MP Dr Lorho Pfoze, and former MLA Samuel Risom.
Today, election notices for both Outer Manipur PC and Inner Manipur PC were issued by their respective Returning Officers. This means candidates can now submit their papers.
NPF has chosen its candidate for Outer Manipur PC, but BJP and Congress haven’t announced theirs yet, and people are guessing.
Alfred K Arthur wants to represent Congress in Outer Parliamentary Constituency.
NPF’s choice for Outer Manipur PC, Kachui Timothy Zimik, used to be an IRS officer and lives in Sanakeithel, Ukhrul.
CPI has picked L Sotinkumar for Inner Manipur PC.
The Chief Electoral Officer, Manipur said candidates can submit their papers until March 27, and they will check them on March 28.
Candidates have until March 30 to withdraw their papers.
On April 19, voters from 47 Assembly segments, including all from Inner Manipur PC and 15 from Outer Manipur PC, will vote.
On April 26, the other 13 Assembly segments from Outer Manipur PC will vote.
Inner Manipur PC has 32 Assembly segments, and Outer Manipur PC has 28.
In total, there are 20,29,023 voters, including 9,80,855 males, 10,47,929 females, and 239 transgenders.
There will be 2955 polling stations in both PC’s.
Poll preparations have started at the District Election Office, Imphal West, with different district committees working hard, according to a press release from DIPR.
Candidates can submit their nomination papers to the Returning Officer or Dr Md. Imran Khan, Assistant Returning Officer, between 11 am and 3 pm until March 27, 2024. Scrutiny will be on March 28 at 11 am.
