The Heibok Hills in Imphal West district and Ngariyan Hills in Imphal East district have fallen victim to destructive wildfires.
Witnesses observed a formidable wildfire engulfing a section of Heibok Hill around noon today.
Mobilizing joint efforts, Manipur Fire Service personnel, Arambai Tenggol, and local residents successfully subdued the wildfire.
Nevertheless, the flames left a trail of destruction in certain wooded areas of Heibok Hill.
Despite meticulous investigation, the precise origin of the wildfire remains elusive, marking the hill’s second encounter with such a calamity. This has led to heightened suspicions, with some individuals suggesting a deliberate ignition by malevolent actors.
Conversely, a segment of Ngariyan Hill, situated under the jurisdiction of Andro police station, faced a similar fate due to a wildfire last night.
Around 6.30 pm, an intense wildfire was observed at Terahoubi part of Ngariyan Hill.
Swift action by locals resulted in a coordinated operation, effectively quelling the raging wildfire, as per reliable sources.
