Today in Moreh, a potential tragedy was averted as one individual was apprehended with two Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in his possession.
The person taken into custody is identified as Sholen Haokip, also known as Lelin, son of Helmang Haokip, residing in Mission Veng, Moreh.
Around 8 am, a joint team of 5 Assam Rifles and Moreh police discovered him carrying two battery-fitted IEDs in his backpack along Moreh bypass road near Chikim village.
Security forces arrested Sholen Haokip as part of the follow-up to the case involving the assault on two Muslim men by Kuki militants in Moreh yesterday.
He has been transferred to Moreh police station along with the confiscated explosives.
Simultaneously, the Tata tipper truck seized by Kuki militants from two Muslim men in Moreh was found ablaze at a specific location along the bypass road of the border town. Moreh has been experiencing intense attacks on security forces and civilians since violence erupted in Manipur on May 3 last year. One of the notable incidents in the border town was the killing of Moreh SDPO and the fatal shooting of two IRB personnel.
While Moreh SDPO Chingtham Anand Singh was fatally shot on October 31, 2023, two other State security personnel were gunned down at the border town on January 17, 2024.
