In a commendable operation led by Pambei, UNLF cadres successfully apprehended three armed individuals, termed as ‘miscreants,’ along with a significant cache of weapons and ammunition at Langol. Chief of Army Staff Th Thoiba, also known as Sidabamapu, provided details of the operation, showcasing the UNLF’s commitment to public safety.
The three apprehended individuals were identified as Khwairakpam Kumar (40), hailing from Thanga Oinam Leikai, Nongthombam Goroba (38), residing in Langol Games Village Zone-IV, and Sougrakpam Hemjit (36), currently staying at Lamphel. They claimed to be village volunteers. The seized items included 4 SLRs with magazines, 3 INSAS Rifles with magazines, 1 mini INSAS with a magazine, a barrel gun with 16 rounds, three bullet-proof vests, and 1 Samurai sword. A total of 122 ammunition rounds were also confiscated.
Chief Thoiba credited the success to a swift response led by Major Ningol Lakpa, also known as Boicha, the Commander of Pakhangba Battalion. The arrested miscreants, causing trouble and fear among the public, were promptly reined in by Major Ningol Lakpa and his team, securing the area and mitigating potential threats.
Lauding the bravery and efficiency of Major Ningol Lakpa and his team, Thoiba encouraged all UNLF officers and cadres to emulate such actions, fostering a sense of safety and security among the public.
Thoiba clarified the UNLF’s stance, expressing support for village volunteers sincerely guarding the valley’s peripheries. However, he emphasized strict action against individuals or groups acting against public welfare or the party’s principles.
“While we are not against village volunteers, strict action will be taken against individuals or groups who are against the public and the party,” asserted Thoiba, highlighting the party’s dedication to maintaining harmony.
Providing a detailed account, Pakhangba Battalion CO Ningol Lakpa shared that the incident originated at Naoremthong area around 11.30 pm. Unknown assailants assaulted two UNLF cadres, seizing their arms and ammunition. The pursuit led the UNLF forces to Langol, where the search operation resulted in the apprehension of the three miscreants. One individual, identified as Sunder (42) from Sekta, is currently absconding, with a three-day ultimatum issued for him to contact the organization.
