TMC’s veteran legislator, Tapas Roy, severed ties with the party on Monday, expressing discontent with its operations and the handling of the Sandeshkhali matter.
Roy, also the TMC deputy chief whip in the assembly, censured the party’s hierarchy for purportedly abandoning him during the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) raid on his residence in January.
Voicing his dismay, he stated, “I am profoundly disheartened by the party’s operational modus. I am weary of the numerous corruption accusations directed at the party and the government. Furthermore, I disapprove of the management of the Sandeshkhali issue,” shared with reporters preceding his resignation announcement.
In an endeavor to mollify him, senior TMC figures, Kunal Ghosh and Bratya Basu, visited Roy at his residence this morning.
Roy has been in a state of disagreement with TMC MP from North Kolkata, Sudip Bandopadhyay.
“I have faithfully served the party for the past 25 years. Yet, I have not received the recognition I deserve,” he expressed.
