Explaining polio, the Mayo Clinic describes it as an ailment triggered by the poliovirus, targeting nerve cells in the spinal cord and brain stem, potentially leading to paralysis.
In severe cases, polio can incapacitate specific limbs, interfere with breathing, and sadly, result in death—also known as poliomyelitis.
Highlighting the virus’s transmission, it easily spreads through infected individuals, even those asymptomatic, via feces, droplets, or contaminated water.
Vaccination emerges as the most effective strategy against polio, underscoring the importance of preventive healthcare.
