Unidentified armed assailants carried out a daring attack on the residence of Additional Superintendent of Police (Operations) Imphal West, M. Amit, leaving at least six individuals injured during the unsettling incident that unfolded on Tuesday evening.
The targeted residence, situated in Wangkhei Tokpam Leirak, Imphal East, became a scene of chaos as gunshots echoed through the locality, sparking panic among residents and the surrounding neighborhood.
According to reliable sources, the armed miscreants, numbering several, aggressively approached along Wangkhei road and forcibly entered Amit’s residence. Once inside, they wreaked havoc, vandalizing property and causing damage to at least four vehicles parked on the premises, with visible bullet marks serving as stark evidence of the violence.
Speaking to the media, Amit’s father, M. Kulachandra Singh, provided a harrowing account of the assault. He recounted that the armed individuals, brandishing weapons, vociferously demanded entry and resorted to gunfire when the gate was being opened. Kulachandra clarified that his son, while serving in the police force, held no personal animosities with any individual or group.
As the assailants went on a rampage, reports indicate that Amit and two of his escorts were abducted during the attack. Following their ordeal, they were released by the armed miscreants and promptly admitted to Raj Medicity for necessary medical attention. The circumstances surrounding their release raise questions about the motives behind the assault.
Notably, the released victims, including Additional SP Amit and his escort, were reportedly freed at Kwakeithel near Pitambara School. This unexpected turn of events only deepens the mystery and concern surrounding the audacious attack on the senior police official’s residence.
In addition to the injuries sustained by those directly targeted, two women were reported to have suffered minor bullet injuries from stray bullets during the chaos. They were subsequently admitted to Shija Hospital for medical care.
