A three-storey residential building collapsed in Delhi’s Mustafabad area early Sunday morning, resulting in the death of a 20-year-old man and injuries to six of his family members. The incident occurred around 5 am.
The deceased, Sufiyan, was trapped under the debris and later succumbed to his injuries at the hospital. His parents, Suleman (45) and Shabnam (40), along with their children Laiba (22), Sana (20), Faizan (17), and Arshiyal (15), sustained injuries and were rescued by the Delhi Fire Services.
Preliminary investigations suggest that the building, constructed approximately 17-18 years ago, was poorly built. The roof reportedly collapsed onto the second floor, leading to the structure’s failure. The family had been residing in the building as tenants for the past four years.
Emergency services, including fire tenders and rescue teams, responded promptly to the scene. An investigation into the incident is underway, and legal action is being considered against those responsible.
This tragedy underscores the pressing need for stringent building safety regulations and regular structural assessments to prevent such incidents in the future.
