The Karnataka High Court has granted interim medical bail to prominent Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa Srinivas, who is facing charges in the Renukaswamy murder case. The decision, made by Justice S. Vishwajith Shetty, allows the actor to undergo spine surgery at Apollo Hospital in Mysore.

Darshan, a well-known figure in the Kannada film industry, was arrested in connection with the murder of Renukaswamy, a case that has garnered significant public and media attention. The court’s decision came after extensive arguments from both the defense and prosecution regarding the necessity and urgency of the medical procedure.

The defense argued that Darshan requires immediate spine surgery, a claim supported by medical reports presented to the court. Darshan’s counsel emphasized the need for treatment at a hospital of his choice, citing trust and confidence in the medical facility’s capabilities. The prosecution, however, contended that the surgery was not an emergency and could be deferred.

Justice Shetty, highlighting the importance of an individual’s health and well-being, decided in favor of granting interim bail. The judge noted that delaying necessary medical treatment could have serious repercussions on the accused’s health.

The interim bail is granted for a period of 30 days, during which Darshan is expected to undergo and recover from the surgery. The court has stipulated that Darshan must provide regular medical updates and reports to the authorities to ensure compliance with the bail conditions. Failure to adhere to these conditions could result in the revocation of bail.

The case, registered under the title “Darshan v. State of Karnataka” (CRL.P 11096/2024), continues to be under judicial scrutiny. The next steps in the legal proceedings will be determined based on Darshan’s medical recovery and subsequent court appearances.

The granting of bail has sparked diverse reactions among the public and media, reflecting the high-profile nature of the case and Darshan’s celebrity status. While some supporters express relief at the actor receiving necessary medical care, others remain critical of the judicial leniency in serious criminal cases.

The case remains a focal point of discussion in Karnataka’s legal and entertainment circles, with many awaiting further developments.
