The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has strongly condemned the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) recent summons issued to K Meghachandra, the party’s state president and MLA. The summons, delivered to Meghachandra’s residence by the ED’s Special Task Force, requires his presence in New Delhi, a demand the MPCC deems impractical and politically motivated.

Speaking at the Congress Bhawan in Imphal, party spokesperson N Bupenda accused the ED of engaging in “politics of vendetta,” targeting Meghachandra for his outspoken criticism of the BJP-led governments at both the Centre and state levels. Bupenda asserted that the ED’s actions are aimed at suppressing dissent and distracting from the central government’s failings in addressing Manipur’s ongoing issues.

The MPCC emphasized that such tactics would not deter their efforts to advocate for the people’s interests. Bupenda also criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s absence from Manipur since the turmoil began in May 2023, highlighting it as indicative of the central government’s neglect.

The Congress party remains resolute in its stance against what it describes as intimidation efforts, reaffirming its commitment to championing the concerns of Manipur’s citizens.
