In a significant operation against illegal drug production, personnel from the Tamei Police Station in Tamenglong district, Manipur, have destroyed extensive poppy cultivation in the region. The operation took place in the Kadi-4 and Kuilong-2 areas, where authorities eradicated approximately 2 to 3 acres of poppy plants, including nursery bedding, in Kadi-4, and around 2 acres in Kuilong-2.

Chief Minister N. Biren Singh commended the swift action taken by the police and reiterated the government’s strong commitment to combatting illegal poppy plantations and associated drug-related activities in the state. This operation aligns with the ongoing efforts of the Manipur government to address the growing concerns over narcotics and their impact on public health and safety.

The cultivation of poppy plants for opium production has been a persistent issue in various regions of Manipur, posing significant challenges to local law enforcement and community welfare. The state government has intensified its anti-drug campaigns, implementing measures to eradicate such illegal activities and promote alternative livelihood options for local farmers.

This latest operation underscores the necessity of collaborative efforts between law enforcement and local communities to tackle the drug crisis effectively. The government encourages farmers to abandon poppy cultivation in favor of sustainable agricultural practices that do not contribute to the drug trade.

As the situation develops, authorities remain vigilant and prepared to undertake further actions against illegal drug cultivation, emphasizing the importance of a comprehensive approach to drug enforcement and community engagement.

The eradication of poppy fields in Tamenglong reflects a broader commitment by the state to ensure the safety and well-being of its citizens. Authorities continue to work closely with community leaders and organizations to foster awareness and provide resources for alternative livelihoods, ultimately aiming to create a drug-free environment in Manipur.
