Chanchui Khayi, representing Manipur in the Grand Finale of Femina Miss India 2024, announced on Wednesday her intent to highlight the state’s issues on a national platform.
Khayi, from Tuinem village in Ukhrul district, aims to use the Miss India platform to draw attention to the ongoing crisis in Manipur. She emphasized the importance of representing all communities affected by the strife.
The Grand Finale of Femina Miss India is set for October 16 in Mumbai. Khayi, who holds a postgraduate degree in Performing Arts specializing in Drama and Theatre, has a distinguished career. She received the Sushma Swaraj Award for distinguished women achievers, won Miss Spring 2019 at the State Level Shirui Lily Festival, the K-Pop India contest in 2020 in the solo singing category, and was among the top three winners of the 19th Sunsilk Mega Miss North East in 2023.
During her homecoming event at Noble Hall, Hotel Classic Grande, Khayi stated that participating in the grand finale offers an ideal platform to bring national attention to Manipur’s 16-month-long crisis. “I will represent all communities of Manipur and carry the stories of victims who deserve to be heard,” she said.
Representatives from the All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur (ANSAM), appealed to Khayi to convey the struggles of Manipur’s people. The event was attended by members of ANSAM, the All Manipur United Clubs Organisation (AMUCO), the Democratic Students’ Alliance of Manipur (DESAM), and others, who extended their best wishes to her.
