The Ministry of Tourism has recognized Andro village in Manipur as one of the Best Tourism Villages in the Heritage category in the 2024 Best Tourism Villages Competition. This accolade underscores Andro’s exceptional efforts in preserving its cultural and natural heritage while promoting sustainable tourism practices.

Andro village, located in the state of Manipur, has been selected for this prestigious award due to its outstanding commitment to maintaining cultural and natural assets. The recognition is part of the annual Best Tourism Villages Competition organized by the Ministry of Tourism, which seeks to identify and honor villages that serve as exemplary tourism destinations.

The Best Tourism Villages Competition is designed to celebrate and promote villages that excel in preserving their cultural and natural heritage, and that foster community-based values. The competition evaluates destinations on their sustainability in economic, social, and environmental aspects. Winning villages are those that not only maintain their unique cultural identities but also contribute to the local economy and engage in environmentally friendly practices.

The selection of Andro village was officially communicated in a letter from Arun Srivastava, Joint Director General of the Ministry of Tourism, to Devesh Deval, Commissioner of Tourism for the Government of Manipur. The letter highlighted Andro’s successful integration of traditional practices with modern tourism principles, which align with the competition’s criteria.

Arun Srivastava’s letter noted that Andro was chosen as one of the best villages under the Heritage category for its dedication to preserving local traditions while promoting sustainable tourism. The letter also invited Commissioner Devesh Deval to attend the upcoming World Tourism Day celebrations in New Delhi, where the official announcement and award presentation will take place.

This recognition places Andro village on a national platform, showcasing its efforts to a broader audience and setting a benchmark for other villages aiming for similar achievements. The award not only honors the village’s current efforts but also encourages continued commitment to sustainable tourism practices and cultural preservation.

The award ceremony will be held on September 27, 2024, in New Delhi, coinciding with World Tourism Day. This global event celebrates the role of tourism in fostering cultural exchange, economic growth, and sustainable development. The ceremony will highlight Andro’s achievements and offer a platform for sharing best practices with other tourism destinations.

Andro village’s recognition as one of the Best Tourism Villages in the Heritage category is a testament to its successful blend of cultural preservation and sustainable tourism. As the village prepares to receive this honor, it exemplifies the potential of rural destinations to contribute significantly to the broader tourism landscape while maintaining their unique heritage.

This award not only celebrates Andro’s accomplishments but also serves as an inspiration for other villages striving to achieve similar success in preserving their cultural and natural heritage while promoting sustainable tourism practices.
