On Tuesday, women from Khwairamband Keithel staged a protest against both central and state governments in response to escalating violence in Manipur. The demonstration followed drone attacks by Kuki militants on Meitei villages on September 1, which resulted in the death of a 35-year-old woman and multiple injuries.

The protesters marched towards the Chief Minister’s residence, demanding immediate and decisive action from the authorities. They expressed frustration over the government’s inaction and questioned why there had been no substantial response to the attacks.

One protester criticized the government’s silence, questioning why the Governor and other officials had not taken a stronger stance against the militants. She condemned the use of drones in the attacks, likening it to warfare between nations and highlighting the perceived lack of repercussions for the perpetrators.

The protestors were stopped by police near the Gambhir Singh Market complex on BT Road, leading to heightened tensions. The women vowed to escalate their agitation if no decisive measures were taken against the Kuki militants.

The protesters emphasized that it is the government’s responsibility to ensure the security of Manipur, not the people.
